The following obituary was published on Saturday, April 29, 1939 the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, page 8.

“W. S. PATTERSON- Seventy-one  years old, died at 2:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Alice Cummons of Barboursville.  Funeral services will be held at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon at the Hal O. Heck funeral home, Barboursville, with the Rev. David A. Harper, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Denver Musser, pastor of the Pilgrim Holiness Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Barbourville cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Luke McGinnis, John Allmond, S. H. Patterson, L. Luster, C. C. Swann, and Luther Houchin.  Mr. Patterson is survived by his widow Mrs. Ellen Patterson, Cleveland O.; a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Bradford, also of Cleveland, and four sisters, Mrs. Cummons, Mrs. Ruth Burks, Barboursville. Mrs. Blanche Wentz, Pottstown, Pa., and Mrs. Nettie Luster, Barboursville.”  

On April 30, 1939 the following obituary was published in the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, Sunday Advertiser, page 4.  

 “W. S. Patterson, 76 years old, who died Friday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Alice Cummons of Barboursville, will be buried today in the Barboursville cemetery after funeral services at 2:30 P. M. at the Hal O. Heck Funeral home. The Rev. David A. Harper, pastor of the Pilgrim Holiness church, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Luke McGinnis, John Allmond, S. H. Patterson, H. Luster, C. C. Swann, and Luther Houchin.”
