THELMA JUNE HOLMES

THELMA JUNE HOLMES, 91, of Ona, W.Va., died Thursday, February 21, 2008, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House after a brief illness. June was born December 6, 1916, in Milton, W.Va., the fourth child of Alonzo Day (Lon) Wells and Mary Elizabeth (May) Cooper Wells. She spent most of her life in Huntington, W.Va., attending Simms Elementary, Lincoln Junior, and Huntington High School. She married Felix Holmes in 1942 and they enjoyed 50 years together. She retired from CSX Transportation with 30 years of service. She was a former member of the Highlawn Baptist Church. More recently, she resided in Kokomo, Ind., where she was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and in Findlay, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Virginia; her parents; a sister, Opal Louise Locke; a brother, Marion Rudolph Wells; and her husband. She is survived by her daughter and son, Marilyn Yvonne Grant of Kokomo, Ind., and Philip Barry Holmes (Gloria) of Ona, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Alan Florek and Stacey Ellen (Rod) Miller of Kokomo, Ind., Amy Elizabeth Wood of El Paso, Texas, Jason Gregory (Jessica) Holmes, Timothy Shannon (Jennie) Holmes of Huntington, W.Va.; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, February 24, at the Heck Funeral Home, Milton, W.Va., with the Reverend J. David Easter officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the services at the Milton Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington.
