Preceding him in death were two sisters and six brothers. Although he loved playing football for Huntington High, his passion in life was to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. For 16 years he and his family were missionaries in Dutch New Guinea (now West Papua). They reduced tribal languages to writing, translated portions of the Bible, taught nationals to read and write, did medical work, and established 22 churches. After returning to America, Austin taught missions in two Bible schools, supervised missionaries in several countries, and directed a mission board for over 10 years. His great joy was to see young people give their lives to God and serve Him faithfully. Survivors include his wife, Ellora Caudill Lockhart of Huntington; four daughters, Leah Gehret of Pa., Beth Gregory of Pa., Fran Geiger of Texas, and Alice Schaible of Pa.; 10 grandchildren, DeAnna Warner, Dana Gehret, Gordon Gregory III, Eric Austin Gregory, Laura Gregory, Jessica Gregory, Chad Geiger, Austin "A.J." Geiger, Nikki Geiger and Brandt Schaible; one great- granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Warner; one sister, Mary J. Lockhart and one brother, Terry Lee Lockhart. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.
