JAMES COX

James Cox is buried at the Yatesmont Cemetery near Ona.  He was born
in 1755 and died in 1840.  Cox served under Colonel Joseph Crockett
during 1778 - 1779 in the Illinois Expedition.

JAMES COX FOUGHT IN THE VIRGINIA LINE

James Cox, Early of Buckingham County, Virginia, was born in 1755 and died in 1840.
He is buried at Yatesmont Cemetery located off of Howell Mills Road in Ona.

He was in Joseph Crockett's regiment,, the Virginia State Line.  Cox served in the
Illinois Expedition under Crockett from 1778 - 1779.

Cox came to Cabell County about 1803 and settled on Mud River near the Great
Falls (Blue Sulphur and Ona).  He was one of the first settlers on Mud River.

He was the ancestor of various Cox, Herndon, DeFore and Herford families of this section.
