ELEANOR "DEAN" STARK, 92, of Huntington, died peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2024. Dean was ever kind, patient, and generous, and will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her children, Tim Stark (DiAnn, Palmetto, FL) and Heather Stark (Jason, Huntington), grandchildren Tim Stark (Tulsa, OK) and Jared Stark (Arianna, Cleveland, OH), and great-granddaughter Elia (Cleveland, OH).
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William "Bill" Stark (Huntington, WV), parents Hershel and Maude Williamson (Logan, WV), sister Lajeana Aldredge (Logan, WV), mother-in-law Iola Stark (Huntington, WV), and brother-in-law Thomas Hall Stark (Gastonia, NC). She is also survived by her twin sister Evelyn "Dale" Stark (Gastonia, NC), her children Tom Stark (Alex, Rogers, AR) and Cynthia Anderson (Ed, Gastonia, NC), niece Deena Pittman (Hank, Fairfax, VA), brother-in-law James Stark (Linda, Winston-Salem, NC), and their children Kenneth Stark (Michelle, Zionsville, IN), Sarah Lineberry (Michael, Radford, VA), and Kate Stark (Keith, Cincinnati, OH).
She and Bill married in 1953 and first lived in Woodbridge, VA, where Bill served in the Army, while she worked as an administrative assistant on base, then they returned to and settled in Huntington. Dean was an amazing mother, artist, educator, and volunteer.
She was a lifelong student of the visual arts and would return to Marshall in 1975 to pursue and complete her painting degree. This practice and continual interest would lead to many years as a docent and educator at the Huntington Museum of Art. She was a member of the Tri-State Artists' Association, often participating in "Art in the Park," and was active as a Sunday school educator and within Bible study circles at First Presbyterian Church. She loved to travel, especially on family beach trips, and was the best mom anyone could ever hope to have.
Services, followed by a short reception, will take place 2 p.m. January 27, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church of Huntington. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
