GEORGE EDWARD "ED" COPELAND JR., 67, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., husband of Deborah Mary Copeland went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday the 24th of November 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Va., after his long battle with cancer. Ed was born to Alice M. and George E. Copeland on May 25th, 1948. He attended local Grade school, Junior High, Huntington High and earned his degree form Marshall University. Ed had a long career in serving the public and community ending his full-time career retiring from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - FEMA, and most recently worked post-retirement consulting with Maryland Environmental Service. He remained a member of First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, and his legacy there carries on in various aspects of the church's traditional services to the Huntington community. Ed truly loved his Lord, his Family and his many Friends. Ed is preceded in death by father George Edward Copeland and mother Alice McCutcheon Copeland. Ed is survived by his wife Deborah Mary Copeland, son Grant Edward Copeland, both of Richmond, Va., daughter Kathryn Beverly Copeland of Huntington, W.Va., sisters Christy (David) Groves and Carol (Thomas) Hastie, and Mother-in-law Beverly J. Both, all of Huntington, W.Va., also many additional brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday December 12th, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 1015 5th Avenue, Huntington, W.Va. Reception for family and friends will follow service in the Friendship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church for the Ed Copeland Christmas Day Dinner for the Homeless Fund.
