Mr. Joseph C. Venters died Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Huntington. He was born in Holden, WV to the late Lillie Mauk and J. Coleman Venters on February 15, 1924. He was educated in Logan schools and graduated from WVU in 1948 with a business degree. He served in World War II with the 456th Bomb Group. He was a B24 pilot with the rank of 1st LT. He worked in the mine machine industry in WV, KY, PA and OH. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Mr. Venters was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and elder. He also served as property chairman, assistant treasurer and on the finance committee. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Brand Venters; four children: Daniel and his wife Jane of Somerset, KY, Carol Lehman and her husband Tom of Cairo, GA, Nancy Linscott and her husband Rick of Canal-Winchester, OH, and Susann Venters of Huntington, WV; grandchildren Joseph Venters, Andrew Venters, Emily Coomes, TJ Lehman, Tim Lehman, Chris Linscott, Eleanor Stephens and Delaney Stephens; great grandchildren Clementine Coomes and Rose Lehman; a sister, Evelyn Lowe of San Jose, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Merle. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 3pm at the First Presbyterian Church, Huntington. The family will receive visitors after the service. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
