Bill Campbell (1923-2013, as he was known to friends, is regarded as one of the greatest amateur golfers in the history of the game. During his career he won 33 championships, including 15 West Virginia State Amateur titles, three West Virginia Opens, four North South Amateur Championship, one Mexican National Amateur Championship, two World Amateur Championship and back to back U.S. Senior Amateur titles. He was a successful businessman who served on dozens of local boards, was active in politics and lent his time to any endeavor that would help better the state he loved so dearly. "Huntington has been a wonderful hometown for me," campbell said in a 1990 interview for this magazine. "I have traveled a lot and yet keep coming back. People here care about each and they take the time to let you know about it."
