Drummer Boy Fought With Washington
-------------------------------------------------------------
----------
Alexander Milliner lived to be 104. He
fought in the
Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and helped raise
recruits for the 140th New York Regiment during
the Civil War.
And he was one of the few Revolutionary War
soldiers to have his Photograph taken.
As a young lad, he served as a drummer boy
in Washington's Life Guard. He was a great
favorite of General Washington and once
received $15 from him.
"He padded me on the head and called me his
boy", Milliner recalled. "I drank out of his flask
on a bitter cold morning. He (Washington) was
a good Man. A beautiful Man."
He remembered Martha Washington visiting
the troops in the hospitals.
