Buffington Graveyard Just a Memory

-------------------------------------------------------------

There was a graveyard on what is now Staunton Road at the
southeast corner of the Cedar Grove lot in Huntington. When
the Cedar Grove property was divided into town lots, the
bodies were disinterred and moved to Spring Hill Cemetery.

There were a number of old gravestones in this lot that marked
the graves of numerous Buffingtons, Scales, Russells and other
pioneers. Unfortunately were not taken to
Spring Hill but were destroyed.

In the removal of these bodies, the coffin containing the
remains of William Buffington was broken open and his
body was found to be in almost a perfect state of
preservation. Dr. E. S. Buffington, his grandson, saw the
body and had no trouble in identifying it.

There are a number of private graveyards scattered throughout
the county, but as time goes on and the persons interested in
them pass on, these resting places are destroyed.
