Opera House Burns in 1879
-------------------------------------------
In the early 1870's, Robert T. Harvey built
an opera house in
the third floor of the Harvey building at the northwest corner of
3rd Avenue and Tenth Street in downtown Huntington.
The lighting was with oil lamps and the
floor was one level
with some seats raised in the rear which were designated as the
"peanut gallery".
The building was destroyed by the fire of 1879.
