War of 1812 General Buried at Salt Rock

A war of 1812  brigadier general is buriee at Salt Rock.

Eliaha McComas rose in the military life of Virginia from
captain of the militia to brigadier general. He and his wife,
Annie, are buried in the Elisha McComas Family Cemetery.

During the War of 1812, McComas served as colonel of the
120th Regiment, Thirteenth Brigade, Third Divison. While his
regiment was not called into service under his command,
recruits were drawn from it, both for infantry and cavalry
service. Detachments from thw 120th Regiment saw active service
in the defense of Fort Meigs, Ohio, and along the
Atlantic seaboard.

McComas moved to Cabell County along with hif wife from
Montgomery, Giles County, Virginia. He helped organize
the new Cabell County.

He had two soss who voted during the Virginia Secession that
started the Cuvil War. One voted for secession and the other
voted against. Another son organized McComas' Artillery and
was killed in battle. A fourth son served as a doctor in McComas
Artillery, A fifth son became the editor of a Chicago newspaper.
