On Thursday, October 11, 1934 the following obituary was published in the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, page 2.  

“Mrs. Mary E. Patterson – Eight-four years old of Barboursville, who died at her home at 8 o’clock yesterday morning, will be buried tomorrow in Barboursville cemetery following funeral services at 3 o’clock at the Heck Funeral home, with Rev. Guy Coffman officiating. Surviving are one son, Stewart Patterson of Indianapolis, Ind; four daughters, Mrs. Blanche Wentz and Mrs. Russell Lester of Huntington, and Mrs. Ruth Burks and Mrs. Alice Cummings, of Barboursville, and a brother, Guy Cowan, of Hurricane.
