LAVLET COURTS CARROLL

LAVLET COURTS CARROLL, 95, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Monday, January 5, 2009, at the Hospice House of Huntington. She was born March 22, 1913, on Bear Creek in Lincoln County, West Virginia, daughter of Jesse Courts and Barbara Curry Courts. She graduated from Guyan Valley High School and married Taft Carroll in 1934. They moved to Milton shortly thereafter. She moved to Broadmore Assisted Living in Teays Valley in 2006. Both Lavlet and Taft were members of the Milton United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School for many years, first children and then adults; and she was a member and circle leader of a United Methodist Women's group in her church. She was a member of Milton Senior Citizens and was voted AARP Woman of the Year in 1995. Lavlet was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, infant daughter Marcia Ann Carroll in 1951, and her two brothers, Emmett Courts and Eugene Courts. She is survived by daughter Lynn Carroll-Jones and husband Dick Carroll-Jones, who live in New York City; son David Carroll and wife Joann Morris Carroll, who live in Oakton, Va.; granddaughters Susan Fahey of Oakton, Va., Cindy Papovich and husband Jim Papovich of Prospect, Ky., and Stacy Carroll of Sacramento, Calif.; great-grandchildren Shannon Fahey, Ryan Fahey, Ashley Papovich, Caitlin Papovich and Alec Papovich. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2009, at Heck Funeral Home, with Rev. Joseph Jarrett officiating. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations may be made in Lavlet's name to the Milton United Methodist Church.
