GLADYS G. BECKETT (NEACE)

     Gladys G. Beckett (Neace), 86, of Salt Rock, W, Va. went to be with her Lord
Oct. 8, 1992, in Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane, W. Va. She was born June, 15, 1906,
at Salt Rock, the daughter of the late Andrew and Maude Baker Ross. She was the wife of the
late Robert Leonard Beckett and is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Ruby Ann McComas
of West Hamlin and Joyce and Ray Johnson of Barboursville, and two sons and daughters-in-law, David
and Myra Beckett of Huntington and Herman and Melanie Beckett of Milton. She was the foster mother of
Linda Tomblin, Jane Tomblin, Gail West, Roger Prichard and Earl Bragg. Also surviving are two brothers,
Clovis Ross and Kenneth Ross, both of Salt Rock, one sister, Gypsie Spurlock on Ona, W. Va., 13 grandchildren,
21 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, including the
wonderful  friends  of Americare Putnam and a very special friend, Vona McCoy. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin,
by the Rev. William Hughes Jr. and the Rev. Billy Maynard. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery, Madison Creek Road,
Salt Rock. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral Home.

 

                                  ROBERT LEONARD BECKETT

     Robert Leonard Beckett, 68, of Salt Rock, Rt. 1, died Saturday morning at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church at
Salt Rock, of which he had been a member for 49 years and served as deacon. Rev. Homer
Hatfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Ross family cemetery near the church. An employee
of Guyan Auto Parts in Huntington, he was born Aug. 1, 1902, in Cabell County, a son of the
late Frank and Martha McCallister Beckett. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys Ross Beckett,
two daughters, Mrs. Ruby McComas of West Hamlin and Mrs. Joyce Johnson of Barboursville,
two sons, Herman Beckett, a Huntington city policeman, and David Beckett, also of Huntington,
three sisters, Mrs. Letha Walker of Salt Rock, Mrs. Ollie Ross of Culloden, and Mrs. Effie Porter
of Titusville, Fla. two brothers Emmett and Lonnie Beckett of Salt Rock, 12 grandchildren, and eight
great-grandchildren. The body will be taken from Wallace Funeral Home at Barboursville to the home
where friends may call after 11 a.m. today. Pallbearers will be Thomas and Larry Beckett, Charles Held,
Thomas Ellis, Hershell Ross, and Allen Johnson.
