Elizabeth "Beth" Ann Vensel, 73 of Barboursville, WV, formerly of Wheeling, WV, passed away comfortably at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. Hesse, Sr. and Anne Dudley Hesse; two brothers, James Dudley Hesse and John L. Hesse, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, John Laurence Vensel of Barboursville formerly of Wheeling, WV; three children, Jonathan Mark Vensel, Leslie Anne Vensel and James Laurence Vensel all of Barboursville, WV; grandson, Jordyn Saeger of Enid, OK; the family dog, Dudley which is named after Elizabeth's Grandpa Dudley; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Hamilton Hesse and Joan Vensel Carrigan; brother-in-law, Charles R. Wallace and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Elizabeth was a graduate of Triadelphia High School Class of 1968 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia University Class of 1972. Beth was an avid sports fan and loved the Mountaineers where she followed in the family tradition of being a WVU Alumni dating back to 1932. She loved her Pittsburgh Pirates where she religiously followed and watched them on TV. Beth also enjoyed spending time with friends at the American Legion Post 177 of Barboursville. Beth was the clerk at S&J Market in Barboursville for almost twenty years where her customers were impacted by her on a regular basis. She greeted everyone with a welcome and a smile. She was loved by all! Family and tradition reflects that our house was a gathering place of all of our children's friends where she could be responsible for raising hundreds of children, from Wheeling, WV, Vienna, WV, Nashville, TN and Barboursville, WV. Beth has been battling respiratory illness for a long time as a result, it became impossible for her to breath causing her to seek care with Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 25, 2023 with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary and Cremation Services, 6357 E. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, WV 25705, near Barboursville with Fthr. Dean Borgmeyer of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Gabe Heinemann officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Memorial Park, Huntington, WV. The family asks that WVU dress apparel be worn but not required. Flowers are appreciated but memorial donations may also be made to Hospice of Huntington. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary and Cremation Services.
