Union Memorial Cemetery
UNION MEMORIAL CEMETERY
Cabell County, West Virginia
Union Memorial Detail List
Latitude: N 38° 25. 506
Longitude: W 082° 07. 179
Elevation: 687 feet
Accuracy: 20 feet
From Milton, WV in Cabell County take Fair
Grounds Road for about 1.5 miles or till you come to Rock Camp Branch Rd.
Turn Left onto this road and go to the next road that turns Left. Turn
Left onto this road and the cemetery will be on your Right.
There is a fence that goes through the middle of the cemetery. The
Left side next to the road is clean but the Right side is very overgrown
with brush. If you need to go into the overgrown side of the
cemetery you should let the property owner know. She lives in
the Brick House on the Right side of the road when you first turn onto the
road that goes to the cemetery (this is before you get to the cemetery
-- on the main road).
The above monument was place at the cemetery by
the America Legion Post 139 for the men who fought in the Civil War at
nearby Union Baptist Church and contracted measles and were not allowed to
go home.
It should be noted that this is a very old
cemetery and the biggest part of the markers were broken and were found on
the ground. Some of them were very hard to read because of being
broken and parts gone. Also the weather over a period of time
have made some very hard to read.
