Duncan

Mary T. Duncan, 80, of Huntington, WV, wife of C.D.
"Doug" Duncan, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the Emogene Dolin
Jones Hospice House, Huntington. Mary was born July 21, 1929, in Atlanta,
GA, a daughter of the late Lemuel A. "L.A." and Lula Vaughn Tolleson. Others
preceding her in death were a son, Larry K. Duncan; three sisters, Ruth
Sprayberry, Grace Lockhart and June Mosley; and two brothers, L.A. Tolleson,
Jr., and Earl Tolleson. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and
great grandmother. She is a Christian of Baptist faith and shared her gift
of hospitality with family, neighbors, and friends. She was an excellent
cook and homemaker. All remember her coconut and pound cakes! She made every
birthday and holiday special. She was an active volunteer at the schools her
children attended and an assistant Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She was
a member of the former Huntington Women's Club, the Chappell Hill Women's
Club, and the Guyan Country Club for many years. She loved gardening and
bird watching. She wrote beautiful letters and when she shared her childhood
stories of growing up in the country and in Tallapoosa, Georgia, all hearts
were full of joy and the room full of laughter! She is survived by her
loving husband of 56 years, C.D. "Doug" Duncan; her daughter and son-in-law,
Mary Ellen "Micki" and Kent Briland of Huntington; four granddaughters,
Sarah Briland and her husband, Ben Durham of Midway, KY, Ruth Briland of
Columbus, OH, Jessica Kearns and her husband, Clint of Georgetown, KY, and
Marianne Swann and her husband, Jeremiah of North Charleston, SC; two great
grandchildren, Addison Kearns of Georgetown, KY, and Natalie Rose Swann of
North Charleston, SC; her sister, Ethel Tolleson of Cedartown, GA; a brother
and sister-in-law, John and Martha Jane Tolleson of Carrollton, GA; a
daughter-in-law, Donna Brady Duncan and her mother, Lois Brady of North
Charleston, SC, formerly of Barboursville, WV; and special caregivers,
Angie, Debbie, Tracy, Linda, and Vic. Funeral services will be conducted
2:00 PM Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with
Rev. Mildred Battle officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park,
Huntington. Friends may call one hour before services Saturday at Chapman's
Mortuary. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the
nurses and staff of Hospice of Huntington for their extended care of Mary
and wish donations be made to Hospice of Huntington.
