History: The Cabell County Library began as a small room in
downtown Huntington in 1902.
However, within 2 years, Andrew Carnegie donated $25,000 for a new library
building,
which opened its doors in 1904. The impressive structure housed the
library for the
next 75 years before being replaced with a new modern facility in 1980. In 1982,
the library became the first public library in the state to be automated with a
computerized circulation system and online catalog. The Cabell County
Library has 7 branches - in Barboursville, Cox Landing, Gallaher
Village, Guyandotte, Milton, Salt Rock and West Huntington.
The system now serves nearly 97,000 residents.

The Barboursville Public Library was established in April 1946
and moved to its current location on October 8, 1967.
