On June 25, 1929 the following obituary was published in the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, page 7.
“FALL PROVES
FATAL
TO NICKEL COMPANY
EMPLOYE AT PLANT
A fractured skull suffered Saturday morning in an 11-foot fall from a crane at the International Nickel Co., resulted in the death early yesterday morning in a Huntington hospital, of Eugene Durton, 42 years old, of Barboursville. Funeral services will be held this afternoon from the residence, at 2 o’clock. Rev. Pennybacker will officiate. Burial will take place at Oaklawn cemetery. He is a member of the Junior O.U.A.M. N.O 190 and the I.O.O.F. No. 80. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Essil Durton; five children, Freeman, Allene, Pauline, Shirley, and Gene Durton; his mother Mrs. Frances Beach, of Huntington and three sisters, Mrs. Eva Shaw, of Huntington, Mrs. Lola Hall, of Columbus Ohio, and Mrs. Maude Mays of Martinsville, Ky.
Pall bearers will be James Brady, Sam Luster, Charles Mays, Lacy Anderson, Lee Jones and Lyle
Buried in the Oaklawn Cemetery
