Ruth Marie Patterson Burks died on October 3, 1964 in Huntington, Cabell County. On October 4, 1963 the following obituary was published in the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, page 6.
“MRS. RUTH MARIE BURKS - Seventy years old, of 1271 College Ave., Barboursville, who died Saturday morning in a Huntington hospital after a lingering illness, will be buried in Oaklawn Cemetery following funeral services at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday at the Steele Memorial Methodist Church, of which she was a member, by the Rev. Jack Trump and the Rev. George Porter. She was born July 13, 1894 in Cabell County, daughter of the late Rev. Rush Patterson and Mary Elizabeth Cowan Patterson. Survivors include the husband, George L. Burks; five daughters, Mrs. Loretta Prince and Mrs. Lois Bledsoe of Huntington, Mrs. Eulaine Palmer of Chesapeake, Mrs. Belva Wentz and Mrs. Evelyn McConda of Barboursville; one son George J. Burks of Barboursville, a step-son Edgar Burks of Barboursville; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one step grandchild, and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Cummings, and Mrs. Nettie Luster of Barboursville, and Mrs. Blanch Wentz of Columbus, Ohio. The body is at the Wallace Funeral Home In Barboursville and will be taken to the church one hour before services. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Monday.”
