JAMES TURLEY

Picture below is the gravesite of Private James Turley and his wife Esther.
They were both born in 1754.  James died in 1838 and Esther in 1824.
They are buried in the Everett Cemetery overlooking U.S. Route 60 in
Ona, WV.   Private Turley received a pension at the age of 80.

TURLEY SERVED WITH GEORGE ROGERS CLARK

Private James Turley served in the George Rogers Clark Illinois Expedition under
captain John Chapman.  Turley is buried in the Everett Cemetery at Ona with his
wife Esther.  Turley was born in 1754 in Pennsylvania and died in 1838.  He
enlisted in the Revolutionary War in Bedford County, Virginia.  After the war, he
lived near the old state road, later James River and Kanawha Turnpike, one mile
east of Ona, later the Daniel Love farm.  He was a private with the Virginia State
Troops and pensioned in Cabell County in 1834 at the age of 80.
He served on a Cabell County jury on February 7, 1815.  His final resting place
is the previously mentioned Everett Cemetery on Howells Mill Road.  His grave
is located on a knob overlooking U.S. Route 60.
