Jefferson Elementary School, on 19th St. West between 5th Ave. West & Jefferson Ave.
 was built in 1911. The picture below shows the school as it prepared to open and
 construction work was winding down. Cafeteria and Gymnasium additions were
 made in 1939 and 1949. The school served its West End neighborhood
 until 1997, when the new Central City Elementary School opened
 on the former Washington Elementary site.The old building
didn't sit vacant very long. The school board sold the
 property in 1999 to a local church. The building is
currently home to Celebration Church.
