Obituary

Clinton W. “Effie” Effingham, 82, of Huntington passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington.  Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington with the Rev. Ernie Stewart and the Rev. Omar Pennington officiating.  Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.  He was born January 22, 1926 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Irvin and Elizabeth Adkins Effingham.  He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Lester; two brothers, Norman and James Effingham and one sister, Garnet Effingham.  Mr. Effingham served in the US Army during World War II and was retired from C & P Telephone Company after 37 years of service.  He enjoyed golfing with his good friends and gardening.  He also loved playing with his faithful dog, “JuJu”.  He is survived by his wife, Philomena Wippel Effingham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ella Jean and Jim Shade of Middletown, OH and Julie and Sam Davis of Daytona Beach, FL; one son, Clinton A. Effingham of Huntington; seven grandchildren, Chris Helmick of Hamilton, OH, Kevin Helmick of Middletown, OH, Heather Clifton of Hamilton, OH, Billy Lester and his wife, Katie Ann, Elisha Lester, Melissa Lester and Alex Lester, all of Lexington, KY; one great grandson, Max Clifton and one brother, Clifford Effingham of Huntington.  Friends may call from one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington.
