LUCIEN RANDOLPH SAMMONS, 94, of Huntington, widower of Anna Lyle Scurry Sammons, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at his residence at the Woodlands Retirement Community. He was born on August 11, 1916 in Catlettsburg, KY, a son of the late Forrest and Clara Hornberger Sammons. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lucien "Lu" and Lana Sammons of Huntington; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret A. "Peggy" and Dr. J. David Daniels of Richmond, VA; sister, Sarah Ann Hawkins; brother-in-law, Frederick H. Sammons; six grandchildren, L.R. Sammons III and his wife Maggie, Kellie Ann Oxley and her husband Perry, Suzanne Sammons, Susan Collett and her husband David, Sara Bowersox and her husband David, and James David "Jim" Daniels Jr.; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge special caregiver and family friend, Donna Eplion. Mr. Sammons proudly served his country as a Major in the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps. during WWII. He was an avid golfer and member of the Guyan Country Club and the Enslow Park Presbyterian Church. He was a good family man and lover of life. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at11a.m. at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church with Pastor Chris Perkins officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial donations in Mr. Sammons' honor may be made to the Enslow Park Presbyterian Church or The Woodlands Healthcare. Beard Mortuary, Huntington, is assisting the family.
