Clayton Eugene Spurlock, 88 of Huntington, WV went to be with the Lord on Thursday May 12, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at Beard Mortuary with Rev. Robert Ray. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park. He was the last of 11 children born to Cell and Vella Plunket Spurlock. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Joyce June Gunnoe Spurlock, a son, Jeffrey Samuel Spurlock, sisters, Myrtle Spurlock, Effie Duff, Josephine Ray, infants Olive Marie and Alice May, brothers, Kenneth, Charles, Donald, George and Lewis Spurlock. He was an Army veteran during WWII. He was retired with 30 years of service with the former Conner’s Steel, worked part-time at Beard Mortuary since 1960, he also worked at Spurlock Flowers and was an usher for Marshall University Athletic Department and was a self employed painter. Clayton umpired Youth Baseball Little League and Babe Ruth for 34 years. He was a member of the D.A.V., VFW Post 9738, whose members will conduct military graveside rites, American Legion Post 91, Quarterback Club and Big Green Club. He loved to sing and sang gospel music for 67 years. He was a former member of Cross Roads U. Methodist Church and Lewis Memorial Baptist Church and attended 26th Street Church Christ. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Redmond and Vicki (Pat) Williamson; four sons, Tim (Becky) Spurlock, Gary (Annetta) Spurlock, Chris (Sam) Spurlock and Ryan ( Jennifer) Spurlock, special former wife, Barbara Lynn May Spurlock, 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Big Green Scholarship Fund or the charity of ones choice.
