DR. PAUL SAMUEL WARREN, Ph.D., D.D., Pastor, Educator, Broadcaster, Teacher, Mentor. "Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15 Dr. Paul, as he became affectionately known, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at his home in Huntington. He was born November 19, 1929 at Mars, Pennsylvania, the 3rd of 12 children of the Late Rev. John T. and Emma Warren. He graduated from Mars High School and attended Bob Jones Academy and University. Where he received his Ph.D., and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity Degree in 1967. Upon graduation, Dr. Paul and his wife of 50 years, Marilyas, started the Palos Heights Baptist Church near Chicago. He came to Huntington in 1962 and was the long time pastor of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in Huntington. During his pastorate, in 1972, he started "the Huntington Christian Academy" which trained many young people: "You have to live somewhere forever so you better learn how to live" and "Do Right! Till the Stars Fall". After retirement from pastoring Dr. Paul and his wife founded the Maranatha Broadcasting Company, which operated Christian radio stations in Chesapeake, Ohio, WMEJ (Wonderful Music Exalting Jesus, which is now K-LOVE), WJJJ in Clarksburg and WXAF in Charleston. . Dr. Paul received great enjoyment from a friendly game of golf, played for the pure fun of the game, and he enjoyed his acquired license to fly his Cessna 172, having become an accomplished pilot. Dr. Paul's truest love was preaching and teaching God's Word. He was a master teacher and affected many lives and led many to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Dr. Paul was proceeded in glory by his beloved wife, Marilyas, his sisters Roberta McMillen and Faith Cookson, also his brother John, Jr., (died at age 4, auto accident), David (killed in Viet Nam); Joel, and Daniel. He leaves behind to carry on the work of the gospel: his sister Priscilla Oakes of Laguna Beach, California, his brother Samuel and his wife Aileen, Evans City, Pa, Timothy James and his wife Carol, Marietta, Ohio, Phillip F. who in the final years of Dr. Paul's life took wonderful care of him and all the family are so grateful to Phil for his sacrificial work as a caregiver ("Well done Phil, you are a good and faithful servant") and his brother Jerry F. and his wife Joyce. Dr. Paul was a long time member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where he preached, taught Sunday School, was faithful in the Visitation ministry, and was faithful in all matters of the body of Christ and loved by all. Visitation will be held at Beard Mortuary, 3001 Third Avenue, Huntington, W.Va., Sunday 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The memorial celebration will be Monday, 11:00 in the sanctuary of Fellowship Baptist Church, 3661 U.S. Rte. 60 East, Barboursville, WV. Guests will be received one hour before worship service.
