Charles"Chuck" Stephan Pletka
(December 26, 1928 - January 23, 2021)



Charles “Chuck” Stephan Pletka 92, of Huntington, WV passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Wyngate at RiversEdge, Proctorville, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Fr. Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10:00 a.m. at the church. He was born December 26, 1928 in Cleveland, OH the son of the late Charles J. and Cecelia Krejci Pletka. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Kelly Pletka, two sisters, Catherine Fritzsche and Theresa Moenich and a brother, Frank Pletka. Chuck proudly served in the US Navy as a Radioman stationed in Panama and aboard the USS Caloosahatchee. He took his skills learned in the Navy and started a career repairing radios and televisions. This led to moving his family from Cleveland, OH to Huntington, WV to open a Warren Radio store where he served as manager. He spent many years working at the former Ensign Electric designing and repairing mining equipment at various mines all over the United States. His final job was working as an independent sales contractor for Service Machine Company. Chuck is a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Knights of Columbus Council 963, American Legion Post 16 and VFW. He enjoyed being a Scoutmaster and spent many summers at various scout camps with his sons. He was a yearly fixture at the Catholic Basketball (later called the St. Joe Invitational) tournament at the old Veterans Memorial Field House. He was happiest surrounded by family, especially during the holidays and at the biyearly vacations at Myrtle Beach. He is survived by his children, Thomas Pletka of Cross Lanes, WV; Charles S. Pletka Jr. and wife, Julie of Proctorville, OH; Jean Horton and husband, Rick of Huntington and Nancy Pletka of Huntington; grandchildren, Crystal (Zach), Megan (Tim), Stephen (Sterling), Sarah (Mike), Kathleen, Nicholas, Amber (Josh) and Ian (Bri), six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Toloskiewich and Barbara Stokes, a sister-in-law, Sister Mary James, S.N.D., and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Wyngate for the excellent care of their father.
