Obituary

Claude Allen Dawson
(february 23, 1952 - November 17, 2009)

God gave us memories so that we might have roses in December. As long as we live, we will remember Claude A. Dawson, Jr, as a quiet, unobtrusive person who loved his family and his friends.

Claude was preceded in death by hi mother Mildred Wynn Dawson, his father, Claude Allen Dawson, and sister, Deborah Dawson.

Claude was born in Huntington, West Virginia on February 23, 1952. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1970. He attended and graduated from Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia with a degree in Occupational Safety. He was previously employed at ACF Industries and he retired from M&G Polymers, formerly known as Goodwill Industries.

He was a charter member of Positive Force, an organization of African American men who strive to improve the Huntington community, and was also an Eagle Scout. Claude was an outdoorsman who really loved fishing.

A beautiful life well lived, though it passes, its memories live. Claude will be remembered as one who was devoted to his family and loyal to his friends. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marsha Ann Pope Dawson; one daughter, Cori Ann Dawson of Huntington; his only niece, Tonya Hoover of Columbus, OH; lifelong friends, Leon White and Alfred Waldon; god daughter, Sherrone Hornbuckle Adams; and a host aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters in law, cousins, great nieces and friends.

Special thanks to Leola Smith (Claude's cousin) for always being there. A celebration of Claude's life will be 1:00Pm Monday, November 23, 2009 at Callender Funeral Home, with Reverend Reginald Hill, officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 5:00-7:00PM at the funeral Home.
