Eugene E. Mers, 86, of Huntington, WV died Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral service will be conducted 12:30 PM Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park. Eugene was born June 24, 1923 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Charles E. & Pearl Gill Mers. He was a retired cook from the V.A. Hospital. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Macel Mers, 2 brothers James & Raymon and one sister Elizabeth. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII and received the Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16 whose veterans honor guard will conduct military graveside rites, V.F.W. Post 1064, life member of the D.A.V. & member of the 26th St. Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Pai Mers, 2 sons & a daughter-in-law Roger Mers of Huntington and Rick & Sharon Mers of Proctorville, OH., a stepdaughter Maureen Comers of Hawaii, daughter-in-law Lynette K. Mers of Huntington, 3 grandchildren Emily, Randy & Danny Mers all of Huntington, 3 great-grandchildren, 4 stepsons & one additional stepdaughter, and special friends Jae & Earl L. Kiser of Grayson, Ky. Friends may call at Chapman's Mortuary from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday August 14, 2009.
