Obituary


Herman Owen Mays


Herman Owen Mays, 88, of Palestine, TX, formerly of Huntington, WV, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 26, 2021. He was born July 31, 1933 in Huntington a son of the late Paul Edward Mays and Tischie Lou Garrett Mays. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janice Ann Bartholomew Mays; a granddaughter, Nastasha Strathman, and seven brothers, Homer Mays, Roy Mays, Gene Mays, Jim Mays, Don Mays, Bob Mays, and Paul Mays. He was a tack welder with ACF and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include: three daughters and a son-in-law, Belinda and Earl McFarland of Palestine, TX, with whom he made his home, Vickie Lou Mays of New Port Richey, FL, and Julie Ellen Strathman of Ona, WV; a son, Herman Owen Mays, Jr. of Huntington; four grandchildren, Christopher (Shannon) Perego, Kimberly Schwab, Christina (Jonathan) Roe, and Christopher Strathman; ten great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Sherri Mays of South Point, OH; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Huntington, with Pastor D. L. Webb officiating and Veterans Honor guard Post 16 conducting Military Graveside Rites. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm at the cemetery. Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, is assisting the family.
