Sandra Kay Vaughn
(January 19, 1950 - August 30, 2012)

Sandra (Sandy) Kay Vaughn (maiden name Tyson), was born on January 19, 1950 to Trellis E. Tyson and Betty Jean Atkinson in Huntington, WVa. She attended Huntington High School but chose to leave high school prior to graduating in June 1968 to raise her first born son William (Trae) E. Harris III and become a house wife to William (Bill) E. Harris II. In 22 Jul 1968, Sandra and Bill had a second child Warren A. Harris and in 1969 Sandra and Bill divorced. Sandra dedicated her life to raising her two children with the love and support of her family; most notably, her mother Betty and grandmother (Martha V. Smith). In May 1970, Sandra was employed at Owens Illinois, Huntington, WVa as a glass selector until the plant closed in 1993. On 15 July 1998, Sandra married her second husband Reginald (Reggie) Vaughn but soon divorced in March of 1999. Although they divorced, Sandra and Reggie remained partners until her passing. Always willing to assist family members in need, Sandra agreed to become a homemaker and caretaker for her father Trellis E. Tyson until she passed, over nine years. Sandra’s life was a true testament of devotion to family and family values, loyalty to friends and family alike, committed to serving others before serving herself, and sacrifice. Sandra leaves to cherish her memories: her father, Trellis E Tyson of Huntington, WVa; two sons, Warren A. Harris of Stuttgart, Germany and Trae Harris of Lovelock Correctional facility, Lovelock, NV; two grandchildren, Laval and Nehajka Harris of Stuttgart, Germany; one daughter-in law, Nehajka (Nena) Harris of Stuttgart, Germany; one sister, Kathleen (Kathy) McClain of Huntington, WVa; one brother Scott (Scotty) A Walker of Lexington, KY; one niece, Katrina McClain Tarry of Atlanta, GA, other relatives and friends. Sandra was preceded in death by mother Betty Tyson Walker and brothers Trellis Tyson Jr and Timothy Tyson. The Harris family wishes to send a special thanks to Hospice for their support during Sandra’s final days. The professionalism displayed by your staff enabled Sandra to transition with dignity and we are forever grateful. The Home Going Celebration will be Noon Friday, September 7, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 801 6th Avenue, Huntington, WV. With Pastor Donte' Jackson, officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home.
