Charles Albert Ferrell
(February 16, 1926 - March 4, 2016)



Charles Albert Ferrell, 90 of formerly of Huntington, WV went to be with the Lord March 4, 2016 in Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Good Shepard Freewill Baptist Church, Huntington, with Rev. George Leese officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, WV with Full Military Honors. Charles was born February 16, 1926 in Whitesville, WV, a son to the late John Ferrell and Esther Virginia Morris Lafferty and his stepfather William Lafferty. He was a member of the Good Shepard Freewill Baptist Church of Huntington, WV. He read his bible often and was very strong in his love for the Lord and the Christians he associated with. He was a good worker and made a good living for his family. Charles made everyone laugh in church and spoiled all the little children by bringing them candy. He told everyone there wouldn’t be any strangers in Heaven and met and welcomed every stranger that he saw coming into the church. Charles served as President of Ferrell Mortuary, INC. and had co-owned the facility from 1977 to 1998. He had proudly served in the Navy during World War II serving in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. He witnessed world history while onboard USS Missouri Battleship in Tokyo Bay at the signing of the Peace Treaty ending the Great War. He was also one of the first groups to set foot on the beaches at Wakayama Japan at the end of the war. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years Mildred V. Ferrell who he married March 6, 1945, and two sons Terry E. Ferrell and Thomas “Tom” Ferrell. Survivors include a very special daughter, Beverly A. Settle (John) of Fayetteville, WV, three brothers, William “Bill” Lafferty (Kathy), Duke Lafferty both of Arizona, John Allen Lafferty of Beckley, one sister; Martha Cranfield of Florida, one very special daughter-in-law Anita Ferrell, that he loved as part of the family, 2 granddaughters; Lori Settle, Laura Lynn, one grandson, Scott Settle (Paget) one very special great grandson, Isaiah, and one extra special great granddaughter Kaitlyn “Baby Doll” Settle and 12 additional great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a family who loved him very much and a host of many friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home. A one hour viewing will also be held prior to burial in the chapel at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, WV from 1:30 until 2:30. Arrangements are entrusted to Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home.
