Obituary

John Hampton Pierson
(July 27, 1928 - November 24, 2018)

John H. Pierson, 90, of Huntington, WV beloved husband of Ethel (Perkins) Pierson for 64 years passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.  He was preceded by his parents, John Pierson and Arsenia (Drew) Pierson; sister, Vivian Pierson; and brother, Leman Pierson; sons-in-law, Ronald E. Wooding and Calvin Newton; and beloved grandsons, Leo Frazier and John (John-John) Pierson  John was born in Lyburn, WV and attended Aracoma High School before joining the U.S. Army as a lineman during the Korean War.  Upon civilian entry, he worked for the Greyhound Bus Station and retired from Owens Illinois.  John is survived by his wife Ethel Pierson; sister, Mildred (Pierson) Atwell-Beard; children, Toni Hodge, John Pierson (Gwendolyn), Vivian Frazier Newton, Samuel Pierson (Veronica), Lizzie Thomas Settle (James) and Stephanie Smith (Clifton); 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Full Gospel Assembly with Bishop Samuel R. Moore, officiating. Family will welcome friends at 10:00 A.M.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Services are entrusted to Ferrell Chambers Funeral Home.
