Bishop John Anderson Martin, Jr.
(May 10, 1944 - January 2, 2019)



Bishop John Anderson Martin, Jr., was born on the 10th day of May in 1944 in Ethel County, Logan, West Virginia to the parentage of the late Pastor John A. Martin, Sr. and Pauline Adams Martin.  When Bishop Martin was eight years old, his family relocated from Ethel County, Logan, West Virginia to Columbus, Ohio. Bishop Martin was a basketball star and 1962 graduate of Marion Franklin High School.  Bishop Martin accepted the call of God to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in December 1975. Since that time Bishop Martin served in the capacity of pastor for 39 years. He pastored the Union Gospel Church, Columbus, OH,  the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Coshocton, OH and the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Huntington WV. He was the Interim Pastor of the Encouragers Fellowship Church, Huntington, West Virginia for four years before becoming the full time pastor of twenty five years (April 1994 until January 2019).  Bishop Martin oversaw many spiritual and physical renovations, had a wealth of Christian experience and life achievements.  (Ohio) He served as the co-host for Christian Television Channel 30 (2 years), the past president of the Tribe of Israel, Board of Directors for The Ohio State University Campus Ministries. Bishop Martin served on the Board of Directors for the Columbus Literacy Council, 2nd Vice President of The Columbus Ministers Alliance. Bishop Martin had been a great revivalist for the Columbus Baptist Simultaneous Revival for 26 years. He also served on the Board of Advisors for the Columbus Ohio Board of Education.  (West Virginia) Bishop Martin served as the Treasurer for the Black Pastors & Ministers Association, Huntington, WV. He served on the Board of Advisors for the Huntington United Way & the Renaissance Rehabilitation Center for Women and Children. Bishop Martin served as President of the Fairfield West Improvement Council. He served on the Mayors Committee for persons with disabilities and the Board of Advisors for the Huntington Police Budget Committee. Bishop Martin was awarded the Outstanding Citizen Award by Mayor Jean Dean, served on the Board of Directors for the Habitat for Humanities, Board of Directors for Mission of the Tri-State area through prayer, member of the Tri-State Pastors Group who believes in effecting change for the tri-state area through prayer, one of the Taking Back the Community and Giving it back to God through marches and prayers for the city of Huntington. Bishop Martin served on the Board of Advisors for Believe WV, an organization serving Charleston, Huntington, and surrounding vicinities. Believe WV is dedicated to bringing Christian economics and social change to the state.  Bishop Martin attended Columbus State Community College (formerly CTI) where he was a Dean's List student in Electronic Engineering. He serviced in the United States Air Force as a Missile Launch Facility Technician. Bishop Martin worked in social services and employment counseling for 17 years. On March 15, 2003, Pastor John A. Martin, Jr. was canonized Bishop, at the Prophetic Miracle Ministries, King of Glory Church. Bishop Martin had the call of the 5-fold Ministry gifts of pastor and teacher. Bishop Martin also operated in the ministries of healing and deliverance. Bishop Martin graduated from Victory Bible Training Center in May 2011.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Deacon Joe Martin, two sisters; Sandra Reeves (Jean) & Eloise Brittain (Lois).  Bishop Martin leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, the former Phyllis D. Miles of Welch, WV., children; Deirdre (Darrin) Horton of Charlotte, NC, Natasha (Dwight, Jr.) Britford, Columbus, OH, John Anderson Martin, III (Jay 3) and Brady Martin of Huntington, WV, 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandsons 2 great granddaughters, 2 sisters; Earnestean Allen (Baby), Columbus, Ohio, Necca Teamer (Bludie), Antelope, CA, a host of nieces, nephews & the Shipmates of Encouragers Fellowship Church.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Encouragers Fellowship.  Family will welcome friends one hour prior to services.  Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington.
