Jennie Lee (Lawson) Smith

Jennie Lee Smith, 84, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Cabell Huntington Hospital.  Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 PM, Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Winford Curry officiating.  Entombment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.  She was born May 16, 1925 in Milton, WV a daughter of the late Seward and Alpharetta Fields Lawson.  She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Muriel F. and James L. Hunt; son-in-law, Roy Lewis.  She was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Milton Woman’s Club.  She had worked in her earlier years as a nurse’s aid at the former Morris Memorial Children’s Hospital and also as a ward secretary for Cabell Huntington Hospital.  She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Herbert Smith; two daughters, Patricia Ann Lewis of Milton, Barbara Jean (Ottie) Keaton of Hamlin; two sons, Herbert Lee Smith of Milton, James Douglas Smith (Randy Walker) of St. Albans; sister, Dottie (Fred) Smith of Milton; brother, James Lee (Millie) Lawson of Springfield, VA; grandchildren, Lisa (Darrell) Steed, David (Johnna) Lewis, Jeff Harding, Darin (Beth) Harding, Jayson Smith, and Jeremy Smith; great grandchildren, Tyler Steed, Josh and Hannah Lewis, Scotty and Daniel Harding; step grandchildren, Joey, Amanda, and Cody Lawhon, Kevin, Krista, and Greg Keaton.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tom and all the staff of Cabell Huntington ICU, 4th Floor.  Jennie was a 38 year survivor of breast cancer and donations may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd., Suite 300, Frisco TX 75034.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.
