Obituary

John Joseph “Jack” Brun of Ona, West Virginia, passed away Sunday at the age of 75. We will greatly miss his physical presence, but we know that he will always be with his family and all those whose lives he touched in so many ways.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Janice, his wife of 52 years. Jack was incredibly proud of his 4 children: Chris, Lisa, Steve and Scott, along with their partners in life, Sherrie, Kevin, Susan and Annette. Immense joy was found in his grandchildren John, Vickie, Evan, Erick, Bryan, Jasper and Kiffin. And no one should forget his favorite K9 walking buddy, Rafe.

His surviving sisters include Margaret Brun, Mary Ann Brun and Patty Karn.

Jack was a native of Dayton, Ohio. He served his country in the Air Force as a member of the Strategic Air Command. Later, he worked to inspire the lives of young men across the country as a dedicated executive with the Boy Scouts of America, creating and participating in programs such as Order of the Arrow, Woodbadge and The Wilderness Rangers.

Jack was a founding member of St. Stephens Catholic Church and integral member of the choir. He spent his last few years as a member of the Thundertones, skydiving, golfing and reading anything and everything between two covers of a book.

A viewing and family reception will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8pm at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Ona, WV. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church Wednesday morning at 10am with Celebrant Father James M. Sobus. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2491 James River Turnpike, Ona, WV 25545 or the Huntington Hospice House, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709 would be welcome – their compassion and service to those in need are appreciated by the family.
