Dixie Eileen Cummings, 71, of Milton, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born November 24, 1939 a daughter of the late Robert and Golda Kelley. Dixie is survived by her husband of fifty years, James Lee Cummings; sons, Dr. James Lee “Jamie” Cummings II (Linda) of Wilson, North Carolina and Robert Donald “Robbie” Cummings (Kim) of Milton; grandchildren, Alexandria Cummings of Ashville, North Carolina, Kaitlyn Cummings of Charleston, South Carolina, Brittany Cummings and Robbie Cummings both of Milton; other survivors include sisters, Dorothy Wise of Milton, and Judy Kidner (Ray) of Columbus, Ohio; brother, William Kelley (Janet) of Milton; and a host of nieces and nephews. Dixie graduated from Milton High School and attended Marshall University. She worked at Huntington Bank in Columbus, Ohio and The Twentieth Street Bank in Huntington prior to becoming owner and operator of Dixie Cummings Tax Service in Milton. Throughout the years she was quite active showing horses, becoming an avid tennis player and fan, and being a loyal sports mom for her children and grandchildren. Dixie was a member of the Milton Baptist Church where she served on the flower committee for many years, was a member of the Jr. Twentieth Century Club and a charter member of the Covered Bridge Garden Club of Milton. Dixie’s presence will always be felt when viewing her magnificent flower and water gardens. A celebration of her life will be held at Heck Funeral Home, on Tuesday May 24, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Allen Stewart officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from Noon until service time. Burial will follow at Forest Memorial Park, Milton.
