IRENE PELFREY
(April 14, 1921 - September 6, 2012)



Irene Pelfrey, 91 of Huntington, WV went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 6, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Cause of death was complications from heart surgery. Irene was born on April 14, 1921 in Louisa, Kentucky the daughter of George and Elvira Potter. She attended school in Berea, KY. where she met her husband, Curtis. They married right before he joined the Air Force and went to fight in WWII. She stayed behind and taught school in a one room schoolhouse in Louisa, Kentucky. After the war they started their family in Louisa with the birth of Sandy. Curtis' work with the railroad took them to Richmond VA, where Danny was born, then to Huntington, WV where they settled in 1960. She was an active member of her community and church for many years.  Irene worked hard to lead a happy, healthy, independent life.  She was loving and gentle, yet strong and always upbeat with a smile on her face.  She felt privileged to be an intregral part of her great granddaughters’s lives, enjoying having dinner with them every evening.  She was thrilled by everyone’s activities and accomplishments, and especially enjoyed the music her family provided. She is survived by  her children, Sandy Sargent and her husband Paul of Huntington, WV, Danny Pelfrey and his wife, Nancy of Harmony, CA, one grandson Eric Sargent of Huntington, WV and two great-grandchildren, Corey and Cagney Sargent both of Huntington, WV.  She was predeceased by Curtis Pelfrey, her husband of 59 years. The services celebrating Irene Pelfrey's life will be held Sunday, September 16th 2012 at 2PM at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Gary N. Shepard officiating. Entombment will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, WV. The Pelfrey family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Sunday at the church.  Memorial Donations in Irene's name may be made to Pea Ridge United Methodist Church at 5747 East Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, W.Va. 25705 - 304.736.4467.
