Alfred Joseph Gorgia
(June 5, 1924 - April 22, 2016)



Alfred Joseph Gorgia, 91 of Milton, W.Va. was welcomed into his heavenly home for which he had long desired on Friday April 22, 2016 at Cabell Health Care Center, Culloden, W.Va. He has “fought the good fight, he has finished the course, he has kept the faith, “ 2 Timothy 4:7, “absent from the body, present with the Lord” 2 Corinthians 5:8 . He was born on June 5, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late, Oreste and Carmela Gorgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Dale Vance Gorgia, his second wife, Kathleen Talbert Gorgia; four brothers, Joe, Eugene, Tommy and Anthony Gorgia; one sister, Santa Gorgia Lobello; two step-daughters, Patty Talbert Compton and Brenda Sue Talbert Vance. He is survived by his children, Carmela (Fran) Dougherty of Bealton, VA; Ernest Gorgia of Milton, W.Va, Debbie (Bobby) Jude of Barboursville, W.Va; step-son, Tommy Talbert; seventeen grandchildren and step-grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and other close relatives and friends. He was an ordained minister of the Free Will Baptist Denomination, preaching and singing for many years in Logan and Cabell Counties. He lived all of his married life and raised his children in Man and Logan, W.Va., working for Amherst Coal Company as store Manager and timekeeper. He also worked and retired from Logan General Hospital in transportation. He is a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy. We would like to thank Cabell Health Care Center and Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center and their caregivers for all their care. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Susannah Missionary Baptist Church, Fudges Creek Road, Ona, W.Va. with Rev. Tracy Call officiating. Graveside services will also be conducted following the services at Highland Memory Gardens in Logan, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Susannah Missionary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Susannah Missionary Baptist church or Antioch Baptist Church, both in Ona, W.Va. Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville is caring for the family.
