JAMES RAY HARPER
(April 16, 1941 - March 16, 2016)

James Ray Harper, 74 of Hurricane, W.Va. died, Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his residence. He was born April 16, 1941 in Walton, W.Va. the son of the late, French Bill and Catherine Canterbury Harper. He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor with the West Virginia Health Department a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Hurricane, W.Va. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, James Ray Harper, Jr. and one sister, Janet Patty Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Bobbi Cottrell Harper of Hurricane, W.Va;  one son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Cheryl Harper of ST. Albans, W.Va; daughter-in-law, Kathy Harper of Charleston, W.Va; step-son, Greg (Jan) McCollam of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Clinton (Carolyn) Harper, St. Albans, W.Va., Stacy and (Josh) Taylor of Poca, W.Va; Brian Harper of Charleston, W.Va, Erin (Nick) Young of Bowling, OH, Kelly McCollam and Jordan McCollam both of Cincinnati, OH; great-grandchildren, Braxton Taylor, Colton, Heaven and Abree Harper and Elizabeth McCloskey, Reese and Brayden; three step-grandchildren, Peggy Garred of Alpharetta, GA, Mary Katherine Poland of Pittsburgh, PA and B.J. Boydston of South Park, PA; step grandchildren, Amy McCloskey of Woodstock, GA and Maggie Garred of Alpharetta, GA; brother and sister-in-law and caregivers, Jud (Bobbie) Cottrell of Hurricane, W.Va; loving friends, Donna Stowers of Hurricane, W.Va. and Loraine Rappold of Hurricane, W.Va.., Rodney Robinson of Charleston, W.Va, and John Brown of South Charleston, W.Va; Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Baptist Church, Hurricane, W.Va. With Pastor Mark Kilburn officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va.  The family will receive friends from 2-5 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va. The family requests memorial donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care 1001 Kennawa Dr, Charleston, WV 25311 or the Bethel Baptist Church, Hurricane, W.Va.
