Obituary

Bobbie Jo Cundiff
(
August 13, 1928 - October 20, 2012)

Bobbie Jo Cundiff, 84, passed peacefully from this earth into God's loving arms on Saturday, October 20th at St. Mary's Hospital. Bobbie Jo had been married for 63 beautiful years to her husband and best friend, Jack W. Cundiff. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Sharon E. Cundiff. She is survived by her children: Dr. Kim Stevens, Mark G. Cundiff (wife Priscilla), and Joseph Cundiff. She is also survived by 7 loving grandchildren: Melissa Toperzer (husband Dan), Jennifer Woolverton (husband David), Brendan Cundiff, Amanda Schrier, Ashton Cundiff, Katie Cundiff, and Lauren Cundiff. In addition, she is survived by 6 beautiful great-grandchildren: Alexis Adams, Emilie Toperzer, Andrew Toperzer, Jacob Adams, Jack Cundiff, Cody Cundiff, Zachary Toperzer and Elizabeth Woolverton. Bobbie Jo graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1949. She obtained her Nurse Practitionership in 1967. She worked for Lawrence County Health Department in her early years of nursing. She helped establish the Planned Parenthood clinics of southern Ohio. She joined Hospice of Huntington in its early years of foundation, and spent the remainder of her nursing career with Hospice. Her most passionate years of nursing were spent with Hospice. She touched many lives throughout her career in nursing. She had a generous and faithful spirit which positively influenced the lives of the patients and families she cared for along her life's journey as a nurse. Bobbie Jo's spirit for life and love for God will live on through eternity in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and for generations still to come. The following quote is a perfect description of her life: "The woman is a success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled her niche and accomplished her task; who leaves the world better than she found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best she had." Those of us who loved her will grieve her loss from our earthly lives, but we will continue to celebrate daily her beautiful life, love, kindness, and strong inner spirit that will continue to live on in each of us. "God gave us memories that we might have roses in December." Bobbie Jo and Jack attended First United Methodist Church in Huntington, W. Va. The service will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 2PM at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary with the Rev. Steve Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until service time. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Hospice of Huntington in Huntington, W.Va.
