Barbara Gilbert
(March 15, 1945 - July 1, 2020)

Barbara McCoy Gilbert, 75, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Born in Huntington, the daughter of the late Richard and Katherine McCoy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Ben Gilbert, brother Richard McCoy Jr. and sister-in-law E. Jane Gilbert. She is survived by a son Ben Gilbert, three daughters Kathy Reid and husband Jeremy, Sarabeth Bolling and husband Eddie and Jane Gilbert, three grandchildren, sister-in-law Pamela McCoy, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dan and Helen Gilbert, two nieces and two nephews. A graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University. During the early part of her career she worked as a teacher at Chesapeake Elementary School, Lavalette Elementary School and Enslow Park Preschool. She later worked as Youth Services Librarian in both the Gallaher Village and Main branch of the Cabell County Public Library until she retired in 2009. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Huntington where she regularly led Children’s minutes, the puppet ministry and was a substitute Sunday School teacher. In retirement she enjoyed reading her Kindle, hanging out with her dogs Snoopy, Lucy and Daisy, monthly Bunco games, going out to lunch after church with friends and traveling to spend time with her kids and grandkids. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2020 by Pastor Jerry Shields at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary with visitation 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. prior to the service.  Due to the public health crisis, masks and social distancing will be observed.
