Doors to the Past

Cabell County

Here is a view of Rosa Harvey Hall taken in 1937in Barboursville. Note the vintage car and motocycle parked in front of the building. Mildred C. Finley and Ida M. Finley supplied the following information about Rosa Harvey Hall:
The girl’s dormitory for the Morris Harvey College was named Rosa Harvey Hall. The Morris Harvey College was on Main Street in Barboursville. It became “Barboursville Junior High School in 1936. I was among the first students to attend that school in 1936. While a student there, two other students & I walked upon the hill to get a “better look” at the then empty Rosa Harvey Hall. The year was 1936. We were able to get into the building and explore it. It was after that that the building became Barboursville State Hospital. I’d say sometime in the late 1940's or early 1950's. I left the area in 1942 and don’t know when the Veterans Home was located there. But one thing is certain - there was nothing in the building as long as I was in Junior High school.
