Silas Lee Dean


Silas Lee Dean, 88, of Huntington, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He is preceded in death by Father, Silas Dean; Mother, Francis Casey Dean; Stepmother, Henretta Dean; a very special aunt, who help raise him Mary Casey; his wife of 49 years, Mary Lou Lynch Dean; and his two daughters, Deborah Lou Wagner and Janet Lee Dean Carson. Survived by Grandson, Jeffrey Smith; and his wife, Misty Smith; great granddaughter, Taylor Smith of Huntington, WV and great grandson, Ezra Loehr, of Myrtle Beach, SC. Additional survivors include grandchildren, Jillian Smith and Jason Wagner. He was loved by many in the Westmoreland community but had a special bond with his close friends, Todd and Jackie McMullen, Rick and Ruth McCloud, and Mike and Barb Hunter. Silas served in the US Army in the Korean War in the 1st Cavalry Division, after returning home he worked for C & P telephone company and retired after 32 years of service. He was a founding member of Vinson Youth Football League. He spent over 50 years coaching many generations throughout youth, middle and Vinson High School football programs. His dedication to the Vinson community will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 12 pm at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. Those attending are asked to follow CDC guidelines and state mandates of social distancing and wearing a face mask.
