ObituaryRobert Lee "Bob" Ball
“When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everyone will respect you.” Robert Lee "Bob" Ball, 85, of Milton, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. He was born on June 22, 1932 in El Paso, Texas a son of the late Lee and Helen Ball. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Ball and two sisters, Katherine Davis and Sue Flora. Bob was a man who stood tall among other men. He commanded respect from all who knew him. He had a quiet dignity that drew others to him. He was a proud veteran who participated in many honor guard ceremonies for other veterans. He took that responsibility very seriously. He believed very strongly that every veteran deserved to be escorted to his/her final rest with honors. He loved his Korean War buddies and was proud to be a member of their group. Bob served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953 as Sergeant First Class, Company C, 5th RCT, 24th Infantry. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a former Fire Chief in Milton from 1961 to 1963. He worked for Blenko Glass for four years following his military service. He was also employed by Davis Wholesale as a truck driver and finished his career in sales with SuperValu in 1994 after 32 years of service. He was a member for 66 years of the American Legion Post 139 where he served on the Board of Directors. He was a former commander of VFW Post 9796 for six years and a member of the Covered Bridge Car Club. He is survived by his loving wife Doris Ball; one daughter, Jennifer Ball; one son, Jeffrey Ball both of Huntington; one brother, Thomas Ball (Sheila) of Barboursville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2018 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Mark Finley officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton with Military honors conducted by American Legion Post 139, Milton. Friends may visit after Noon on Monday at the funeral home.
