Sylvia L. Nelson Sheffey
(December 18, 1924 - November 17, 2017)


SYLVIA L. NELSON SHEFFEY, 93, of Salt Rock, W.Va., passed away Friday, November 17, 2017, at home with her family. She was born December 18, 1924, in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Pearly and Dora E. Smith Nelson. She was a devoted mother to her son, Robert E. Barnett, who was a Vietnam War veteran. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert E. Barnett; brothers Alvin, Arthur, Luther, Gordon and Sherman Nelson; sisters Alice Nelson-Peyton and Farnia Eveleen Nelson. She is survived by one sister, Elsie Nelson Linville of Ona, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Kelley J. Barnett of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church, a graduate of Barboursville High School, and Marshall University in Huntington. She retired from Kraeer Funeral Home in Pompano Beach, Fla. In her final years, she was surrounded by her loving family and caregivers, Clara Markin, Kay Billups, Deanna and her husband Jerry Shepherd, Candice, Kaydee , Kimberlee, Clara and Arthur Shepherd, Luke and Noah Patrick and Isaiah McCaffery. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville. Burial will be in Baylous Cemetery.
