Dr. Charles V. Bias, 83, passed away on November 13, 2013 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington WV. Charles was born January 14th, 1930 in Huntington to Other O. Bias and Gladys Miller Bias. Charles grew up near Barboursville, WV and graduated from Barboursville High School in 1948 where he played football. After high school, Charles enlisted in the US Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and served in Okinawa and Japan during the Korean War. Charles worked for the C&O Railroad for a few years and started college at Marshall University earning A.B. and Master’s degrees. Dr. Bias was awarded his Ph.D. in History from West Virginia University and published his dissertation “A History of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company and its Predecessors, 1784-1977.” He retired as Professor Emeritus in History from Marshal in 1995. Charles was a member of the West Virginia Historical Society, Association of American Historians, Association of Southern Historians and Phi Alpha Theta. While at Marshall, he served as chairperson of the Athletic Committee and a member of the Quarterback Club and Tip-Off Club all in support of his beloved Thundering Herd. He was a lifelong fan of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Club. Charles is survived by his wife Alma Clark Bias of Huntington where they shared 61 years of companionship and marriage, sister Mary Bias Parsons (Lonnie ) of Chester, Virginia; two sons Dale (Sue) Bias of Whitsett NC and Roger (Paula) Bias of Louisville Kentucky, five grandchildren, Tara (Rich) Miller of Huntington, Patrick, Nathan and Brandon Bias of Louisville Kentucky and Amanda Bias of Washington DC, one great grandson Gabe Miller of Huntington, and three feline friends, Minnie, Abby and Ginny. Charles and Alma are members of Community Grace United Methodist Church of Huntington. Visitation will be held at Beard Mortuary on Thursday November 14, 2013 from ¬¬¬¬¬¬5:00 to 7:00¬¬¬¬¬¬. Funeral services will be held at Community of Grace United Methodist Church at 225 28th Street, Huntington on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steven Hamrick officiating. Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are three grandsons, Patrick, Nathan and Brandon Bias and three nephews, Joe Parsons, Jeffrey Clark and Matthew Clark.
