Obituary

“A radiant smile and eyes so blue, a contagious wit to all she knew.”

After years of declining health, on Friday, July 22, 2016,
Doralie Frances Foster Johnston passed away gently into the arms of Jesus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only child, Yvette Sue Carpenter and her husband, best friend and love of her life, Garland Johnston. Doralie had an amazing love of life. The home she shared with Garland for over 50 years was always a welcoming place for friends and family. The Christmas Eve parties they hosted were a highlight of the holiday season. Everyone was welcome to share in the evening for food, fun, stories and tons of laughter. In recent years, Doralie returned to the faith of her childhood. She embraced the Lord, was baptized and became a member of the Farmdale Church of Christ. She attended church regularly until her health began to decline and made many friends among the congregation. To those who loved her, the world will be a little less cheerful; a little less bright. Her twinkling eyes and sparkling personality will be greatly missed. Doralie is survived by her only grandchild, Lisa Renee (Paul) Bond-Ward, who cared for her in recent years and who was always so gentle, kind and patient with both Doralie and Garland in their declining years. Additional survivors include cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and the other love of her life, Angel, the cat who will always be by her side. Funeral Services will be held for Doralie at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Garland and Yvette Sue. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
