Darrell Keith Bumgarner, Jr.
(July 24, 1964 - July 7, 2018)
DARRELL KEITH BUMGARNER JR., 53, of
Guyandotte, died on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He
was the son of Darrell Bumgarner Sr. and Linda Rose Bumgarner. He was
preceded in death by his brother, James “Jimmy” Bumgarner. A veteran of the
U.S. Navy, he spent his career in the building trades, working as an
electrician and carpenter. He had deep experience and ability in not only
these core trades, but also in plumbing, masonry, concrete – the list
included every skill needed to build a house or commercial structure. He
took pride in having built many Arby’s and other restaurants with a
traveling team that worked with high efficiency and quality. He was a
dedicated craftsman and particularly enjoyed doing building and maintenance
work for employers Dave Strom and Davis Biggs. He also had a lifelong
devotion to designing and building electronic devices; he began creating his
own circuit boards in the basement of his family home before he was a
teenager. He leaves behind many friends who will dearly miss his unlimited
curiosity, his wit, his mischievous spirit and his can-do attitude. He loved
his many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and found much joy in spending
time with them. Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Beard Mortuary;
visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at a
date to be determined. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday,
Aug. 24, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion Post 16, 421 6th Street in
Huntington.
